All First-Year commuter students have the opportunity to interact with our commuter mentors. The commuter mentors writes our
newsletter, Commuter Connections, and plan commuter events to help students get involved, help them adapt university life
challenges, and connect them to campus.

Individual Assistance
The Center for Orientation, Mentoring, Parents, and Academic Student Success (COMPASS) staff is available to provide assistance
for any first-year student that may have academic or personal concerns. Feel free to contact us at us by phone at (906) 487-3558,
or by email at compass@mtu.edu. You are also welcome to stop by our office, which is located on the ground
floor of Wadsworth Hall, room G28.

Mentor Net
MentorNet is the award-winning nonprofit e-mentoring network that addresses the retention and success of those in engineering,
science, and mathematics, particularly but not exclusively women and other underrepresented groups. Its a connection for students

supported by the Educational Opportunity office.
ExSEL
ExSEL pairs students participating in the program with upper level students for more academic mentoring such as one-on-one
tutoring, help with study skills or time management or help to lead multi-student study groups For more information, please contact

division.
Champs Life Skills Program
Participating institutions in the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program are provided with instructional material and supplemental
resources, which support a student-athlete's development in five areas: academics, athletics, personal development, career

Master-Student Athlete Course PE3000
This course discusses college life issues in a group setting and teaches students to deal with the stress of being a student and
an athlete at the same time. The following topics are covered within the course: time management, organization, study skills, and

the athletic department.
MSE Mentoring
Upper division students will be paired with 1st year MSE students and interested 1st year undeclared students. Mentors will
invite proteges to departmental functions, both social and professional as well as classes and labs so that students feel connected
to our program. Students can also help with some advising/academic issues. For more infomrtaion, please contact Mark Plichta for
more information. This program is supported by the Material Science department.
ME-EM Student Success Center
Mentoring in the ME-EM Department occurs within the ME-EM Student Success Center, and integrated center for students and fculty
where involvement, interaction, and investment are focused on the department community. Fourteen initiatives started in Fall 2003

Tutoring with Student Athletes
This program is set up to provide academic assistance to our student-athletes. For more information, please contact any of the
